Apple Health and Health Connect

Period tracking that works with Apple Health and Health Connect

Your watch, ring or scale already saves steps, sleep and weight to your phone's health app. Her Good Days reads them from there, writes your period days and weight back if you allow it, and puts a small app on your wrist for one-tap logs.

The short answer

Her Good Days connects to Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android. With your permission it reads steps, sleep, weight, workouts, heart rate and period data, and it can write your weight, workouts and period days back.

Each type is asked for separately and can be refused. A companion app for Apple Watch and Wear OS logs a hot flash, water or mood in one tap.

What does it read and write?

DataReadWritten back
Period start and flowYesYes, asked on its own
Spotting, ovulation tests, basal temperatureYes, in the Cycle mini appNo
Sleep (asleep time and stages)YesNo

WeightYes, every readingYes
WorkoutsYesYes, for sessions done in the app
Resting heart rate and heart rate variabilityYes, one value a dayNo
Mindful minutesYesYes, for breathing sessions

Blood pressure, glucose, nutrition and pregnancy data are not read. Steps from an iPhone and an Apple Watch are counted once, using the health app's own daily total.

How does permission work?

The app asks for one thing at a time, at the moment it helps, and never during sign-up. The sleep tracker, for example, asks "Fill in your nights from your watch or phone?" with Connect and Not now. Only Connect opens Apple's or Google's own permission screen. Saying no changes nothing else.

Imported values stay on your phone unless you turn on backup to your account. They are read when you open the app, or when you tap Import now.

Apple and Google both forbid apps from using this data for advertising or selling it. Her Good Days has no third-party ads and does not sell data anyway.

What does the watch app do?

  • Quick log. Your top items as large rows. Hot flash, night sweats, water, medication taken and a baby's kick log in one tap; mood, period and sleep quality take one more.
  • Watch face. A neutral "good days this week" number and your plan progress. No symptom, stage or pregnancy word appears, and it blanks when the watch is locked.
  • Workouts. During a program session the watch shows the exercise, a countdown and pause, and records the workout with heart rate.
  • Contractions. Late in pregnancy, a start and stop timer on the wrist.

The watch talks only to your phone, over Bluetooth. Reminders already appear on it, with Taken and Log water buttons.

Typing still works

Everything the health app can fill in can also be logged by hand. Both are kept, and on a day you type a value yourself, yours is the one shown.

Questions

Does it work with Fitbit, Garmin or Oura?

Yes, through your phone's health app. If that device's app saves steps, sleep or weight to Apple Health or Health Connect, Her Good Days can read them from there.

Can I say no to some data and yes to others?

Yes. Each type is asked for on its own, the first time it would be useful. You can change any of them later in the Health app or in Health Connect.

Does imported data go to your servers?

No, by default. Values read from Apple Health or Health Connect stay in the app's encrypted database on your phone. A switch lets you back them up to your account once you sign in. They are never used for ads or sold.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes, and a Wear OS one. Both come with the phone app from the same store listing, so there is nothing extra to find or download.
